About Bursa Malaysia Regulation
Overview
Bursa Malaysia Regulation Sdn Bhd (Bursa Regulation) is established pursuant to the Capital Markets and Services (Regulatory Subsidiary) Regulations 2021. As a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bursa Malaysia Berhad, Bursa Regulation undertakes all the regulatory functions on behalf of Bursa Malaysia Berhad and its subsidiaries (Bursa Malaysia Group). It became operative on 25 January 2021 .
As the frontline regulator of the Malaysian capital markets, Bursa Regulation’s role includes developing regulatory policies that promote a balanced and proportionate regulatory regime, underpinned by sound investor protection. Our regulatory framework is benchmarked against international standards, where appropriate, and is subject to periodic review to ensure that Bursa Malaysia Group remains effective and competitive, in line with the global developments.
In addition, Bursa Regulation:
- administers the rules of Bursa Malaysia Group, by reviewing, approving or refusing to approve applications made by regulated persons pursuant to the rules;
- supervises and monitors market participants and conducts market and corporate surveillance to ensure compliance with the rules of Bursa Malaysia Group; and
- investigates possible breaches of the rules of Bursa Malaysia Group and undertake enforcement actions against errant regulated persons for breaches of the rules.
Its overriding objectives, in addition to discharging the statutory duties of Bursa Malaysia Group, are safeguarding investor protection, promoting transparency in the market place, upholding high standards of conduct and governance among the market participants, as well as maintaining market integrity and instilling investor confidence at all times.
